Other than garden clearance, and some blackboard paint in jack’s room, we haven’t embarked on any project for the house yet. Nothing had got past the planning stage.
Until now.
Having spent years admiring dark rooms in interiors books and magazines and, in particular, the work of Isle Crawford and Abigail Ahern, I have decided to add a bit of moody glamour and inky atmosphere to our little living room that sits off the main kitchen/family room.
Inspiration:
We plan to have a wooden chevron parquet floor and dark walls and woodwork, but which dark??
Having spent ages agonising over Railings v Downpipe (Farrow and Ball) and Plummet (F&B) v Mercury (Fired Earth) and Squid Ink v BTWN Dog & Wolf (Paint and Paper Library) and after a dash across town to Graham and Green in Notting Hill to check the new sofa fabric would match the paint, I decided on Downpipe, a petrolly dark grey from Farrow and Ball.
So, work is underway and there’s no going back.

And here is the paint going up on the bookcases and double doors:

What do you think? Punchy but I’ve been wanting to do a room like this for ever and hope the results will be amazing.
The next post will show the walls painted in the same colour for the full effect!
