Stair carpet

I woke up this morning with a strong dislike for our stair carpet. Apart from being threadbare and yellowing, it was also very dirty and dusty and needed to go.

So, for two hours of my Sunday morning, I made it disappear:

I plan to sand and paint it until we have the money for a nice runner.

It has made the entrance look like a building site (or pared down industrial chic?) and the kids don’t like walking on it but I wanted to make progress and at least force the issue of updating the entrance hall.

Good idea or bad idea??
